SYNOPSIS OF INTERVIEW

Born in the Thompsonville section of Newton, Albert “Al” DelMonte grew up during World War II; he remembered food rationing, blackouts and “gasless Sundays.” After graduating from Newton High School in 1952, DelMonte worked at the local A&P. He was drafted into the Army in 1955; trained in fire direction, DelMonte would eventually be sent to Korea, where he spent the next 16 months with the 7th Division Artillery near the DMZ.
